-
- PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
-
- ListUser is a program designed to list the network users and network
- user identifications on Novell networks using Advanced NetWare 1.0 and
- above.
-
- The following features are included in ListUser version 1.0:
-
- Lists network users and network user identifications.
-
- List the users to either the screen or printer.
-
-
- MACHINE REQUIREMENTS
-
- ListUser requires 128K of available RAM. The IBM BASICA interpreter.
- DOS 2.1 or higher.
-
- ListUser was developed on an IBM-AT using DOS 3.1, running on a Novell
- S system network using Advanced NetWare 1.02.
-
- The program should run on any IBM or close compatible that will also
- run on a Novell Network using Advanced NetWare 1.0 or above.
-
- The program will run on either a monochrome or color display.

- HOW TO USE LISTUSER
-
-
- STARTING THE PROGRAM
-
- Four programs are supplied with ListUser:
-
- RBASNETA.EXE
- LISTUSER.BAS
- LISTUSER.BAT
- LISTUSER.DOC
-
- Start ListUser by typing LISTUSER at the dos prompt. This will execute
- the LISTUSER.BAT batch file. The contents of the LISTUSER.BAT file is
- as follows:
-
- RBASNETA
- BASICA LISTUSER
-
- The first command RBASNETA loads the library routines needed by
- ListUser to access the NetWare function calls. The second command
- loads BASIC and executes the LISTUSER.BAS program.
-
- Once ListUser has been started the copyright screen will be displayed.
- Press the ENTER key to continue.
-
- After the copyright screen has been displayed the ListUser selection
- screen will be displayed. The screen looks as follows:
-
- DO YOU WANT THE REPORT TO GO TO
-
- SCREEN (S)
- PRINTER (P)
- QUIT (Q)
-
- PLEASE ENTER YOUR CHOICE (S/P/Q) -
-
- You have three choices.
-
- SCREEN - The output will display on the screen.
-
- PRINTER - The output will display on the printer.
-
- QUIT - Do not display the report and return to DOS.

-
-
- Enter - S - if you want the output to be displayed on the screen. The
- user and identification information will the be displayed. After the
- screen has filled you will be asked to press the ENTER key to display
- the next page. After the last page has been displayed you will be
- asked to press the ENTER key to return to the operating system.
-
- Enter - P - if you want the output to be displayed on the printer. The
- screen will clear and the word PRINTING will be displayed in the center
- of the screen. Under the word PRINTING a count will be displayed of
- how many records have been printed. The output to the printer normally
- goes to the local printer. To send the output to a network printer you
- must use the SPOOL and ENDSPOOL command from the operating system to
- redirect the output to the network printer..
-
- Enter - Q - if you decide you do not want to display the report. You
- will be returned to the operating system.

- try the program and share it with others who might find it of use as
- long as:
-
- The program is distributed complete and unchanged, accompanied by
- the documentation.
-
- No fee, charge or compensation is requested or received.
-
- ListUser is not distributed in conjunction with any other product.
-
- If you find this program useful, please show your support by

- ListUser 1.0 User Supported Software
-
-
-
- USER SUPPORTED SOFTWARE
-
-
- User-supported software is a means for the computing community to
- receive quality software while directly supporting the software
- authors. It is based on the ideas that:
-
- The value and utility of software is best assessed by the user on
- his or her own system. Only after using a program can one really
- determine whether it serves personal applications, needs and
- tastes.
-
- The creation of independent personal computer software can and
- should be supported by the computing community.
-
- Copying of programs should be encouraged, rather than restricted.
- The ease with which software can be distributed outside
- traditional commercial channels reflects the strength, rather than
- the weakness, of electronic information.
-
- Under the user-supported concept, anyone may request a copy of a user-
- supported program by sending a blank, formatted disk to the program
- author together with an addressed, postage-paid return mailer. A copy
- of the program, along with documentation, will be sent by return mail
- on the users disk.
-
- The program carries a notice suggesting registration of the program.
- If the program does not fit your needs, you do not need to register it.
-
- Regardless of whether you register, you are encouraged to copy and
- distribute the program for the private, non-commercial use of others.

- PRODUCT SUPPORT
-
-
- In order to support users, and to provide a means of distribution, I
- have implemented a special conference for registered users on the
- Indian Hills Community College BBS. If you have questions or comments
- just call and leave a message. If you have a problem leave a message
- describing as completely as possible the problem you are having, your
- system configuration and program version. Describe what steps you take
- before the problem occurs, and exactly what the program does when it
- occurs. If you do not provide a complete description of the problem
- there is little I can do to fix it. I will do my best to help, but if
- you are not a registered user I do not guarantee to provide support of
- any kind.
-
- You will always find the latest version of ListUser and any other
- NetWare utilities on the Indian Hills Community College BBS. The phone
- number for the board is (515)-683-5193. The board is normally in
- operation 24 hours per day. It is running PCBoard software.
-
- ListUtil may also be found on various other bulletin boards.

- AUTHOR'S NOTES
-
-
- HISTORY
-
- I developed ListUser for use on the Novell Networks that are in use by
- Indian Hills Community College. I am a computer programming instructor
- for IHCC (Better Systems Design is a part time programming and
- consulting business). I have responsibilities that include maintaining
- the networks. IHCC has approximately 250 users defined on the
- networks, most of these are students. Five sections of students are
- started each year, each section may have up to 35 students. The
- students are in the computer programming course for 18 months. This
- should indicate to you that we have a lot of user maintenance. In the
- past we had to maintain our user list with pen and paper, now we have
- made the job a little easier.
-
- ListUser 1.0
-
- Released July 26, 1986. This is a brand new program written in
- interpreted BASIC. The program is saved in protected mode, this not to
- protect the source code (if you call most any BBS there are unprotect
- programs available). Because this is an initial release the source
- code can still stand some cleaning up, and it is a little difficult to
- read and follow. Also, because it uses Advanced NetWare function calls
- a person can get themselves in trouble if they do not know what they
- are doing (do you want to re-sysgen your network?). That is why the
- source is saved in protected mode.
-
-
- FUTURE
-
- I plan to add other functions to ListUser such as output to a disk
- file. If you have any suggestions that you think would improve
- ListUser I would like to hear them. Also, if you have any suggestion
- for other NetWare utilities, please let me know.
-
- I do plan on compiling the next major release (2.0) of ListUser. This
- will speed the program considerably. I may even rewrite the program in
- Pascal.
